The best MCP servers for SEO, and what each one is actually for

Most “best MCP server” lists rank tools that do completely different jobs. These six do not compete — they cover rank tracking, first-party search data, raw SERP data, link indexes and crawling. Pick by the question you want your assistant to answer.

We make one of these. Details below were read from each vendor’s own public documentation in September 2026; check current pricing with the vendor before you commit.

    The servers in detail

    LemRank MCP

    LemRank
    What it exposes
Daily Google rank tracking: your tracked keywords, current and historical positions, SERP features, URL-level analysis, and adding keywords to tracking.
    Cost
Included with any paid plan; free trial available.
    Where it falls short
Best when the question is 'where do my keywords rank and what moved'. It has no site crawler and no third-party backlink index.

    DataForSEO MCP

    DataForSEO
    What it exposes
Live SERP results, keyword data, on-page checks and backlink data across a large API catalogue.
    Cost
Pay per API call on top of a DataForSEO balance.
    Where it falls short
The widest raw data, but it is a data supplier: costs scale with every question the assistant asks, and nothing is tracked over time for you.

    Semrush MCP

    Semrush
    What it exposes
Semrush analytics: domain and keyword research, competitor overlap, and other API endpoints your subscription covers.
    Cost
Requires a Semrush subscription with API units.
    Where it falls short
Strong for research and competitor analysis. API units are consumed per call and are separate from the seat price.

    Ahrefs MCP

    Ahrefs
    What it exposes
Ahrefs index data: backlinks, referring domains, organic keywords and site metrics.
    Cost
Requires an Ahrefs API plan, priced separately from the standard subscription.
    Where it falls short
The reference choice for link data. The API plan is a significant extra cost for small teams.

    Google Search Console MCP

    Community open source
    What it exposes
Your own Search Console data: clicks, impressions, CTR, average position, by query, page and country.
    Cost
Free, but you self-host and manage a Google service account.
    Where it falls short
Real first-party data, and free. The setup is developer work, and Search Console only shows queries you already appear for.

    Screaming Frog MCP

    Community open source
    What it exposes
Drives a local Screaming Frog crawl and returns technical crawl findings to the assistant.
    Cost
Needs a licensed Screaming Frog install on the machine running it.
    Where it falls short
The right tool for technical audits. It runs locally, so it cannot answer questions when your laptop is closed.

If the question is “what moved?”

That one needs a tracker behind it. LemRank checks your keywords daily and hands the history to your assistant over MCP.
